Breakfast with the Bridge
Breakfast with the Bridge: October 18, 2008
The following topics were raised at the meeting and some of the ensuing comments are presented.
- Upgrade our docks electrical system.
- It was suggested that we get firm proposals for rewiring the docks.
- It was suggested that we sell bonds to finance the project.
- The Bridge responded that the electrical upgrade question has been looked at, and bids have been received (now out of date) but are focusing on the mandated fire vent project and dock structural issues such as the roof and pile caps,
- Maintaining Master Calendar.
- A member commented on the confusion over the different calendars that are being used, and in particular, the calendar on the back of the office door which lists clubhouse rentals and club events.
- The Bridge explained how the calendar developed by the Commodore for Club events is essentially the same as the one seen on the website and on the Bilge Pump. The one on the office door also has the same information with the addition of club rentals, such as the Seattle Sail and Power Squadron, which uses the club for its boating educational classes and its own meeting.
- “U” dock usage.
- It was suggested that we have a “handicap” loading space on the “U”
- Review of Rules.
- A member thought that we should not require moorage at the club to be able to keep a locker. Currently, the rules do require that, but he stated that it wasn’t always so.
- The Bridge responded that it was assumed that the rule requiring moorage as a condition for being assigned a locker was done to prevent members from using the space for non boating storage.
- Why do we belong to Yacht Clubs?
- It was mentioned that we do so to have more fun, communicate with others and enjoy cheaper moorage rates.
- Publish meeting notes.
- It was suggested that all committee meeting notes be published.
- The Bridge responded that Planning and Finance Committee minutes, the Board of Trustees meeting minutes and the general meeting minutes are published on the Queen City website. This is usually done in a timely manner. The Bridge also thought that requiring all committee to publish their minutes would be burdensome and not practical for small committees that might have a meeting via telephone.
- Spousal Memberships.
- A member suggested that for a one year period that the initiation fee should be dropped for spouses, and this would increase the amount of dues coming into the club.
- The Bridge responded that various membership proposals would be looked at by a committee and spousal membership would be on of them.
- Tying voting to meeting attendance.
- A comment was made that a member should be involved with the club in order to vote at meetings. They also thought that there should be a requirement to attend meeting.
- queencity.org on a sign at the end of dock (waterside).
- This suggestion was made to put our URL on end of the dock by QCYC sign. Everyone though that this was a great idea and it is now in the plans to do so.
- Storage boats
- This issue was raised by a member and it was noted that the Moorage Committee was working on the issue and was making a list of boats that could potentially by contacted by the Bridge.
- Painting and finishing touches on the clubhouse.
- As noted by a member, there has been talk of adding color to the walls of Clubhouse and on the exterior, paint the upper fascia navy blue.
- The Bridge responded that these were being looked at by the Architectural Advisory Committee (AAC) and progress was being made to move these ideas forward.
- Main gate closure on non Husky game weekends.
- This member reminded us that when the gate was put installed, it was only going to be closed on Husky home game days. It was always thought that there were enough members around during the daytime on weekends that it was better to keep the gate open.
- The Bridge stated that they would look into the situation.
- Roll back Winslow overnight fee.
- Many members commented on the increase of the overnight fee at the Outstation to $10 per night.
- The Bridge explained the reasons arrived at by the Planning and Finance Committee and the Board of Trustees for increasing the fees.
- End spider program.
- Members expressed their concern about the ineffectiveness of the program General and it’s cost.
- The Bridge announced that it had already planned to drop the program.
- Leave apartment in current configuration.
- A member thought the apartment should stay in the same configuration and not remove kitchen and move walls.
- The Bridge stated that there would be no remodeling of the old apartment and there were plans to get some better meeting tables and improve the lighting.
- Pump out station.
- The Bridge explained the plans to install a pump out station on the “U” dock for member use only.
- Club’s fire protection/detection methods.
- A member commented on the need for a fire detection system,
- The Bridge explained that our “Fire Vent “ project was being reviewed by Seattle Fire Department and the club is looking into the possibility of installing a fire detection system.
- Cummins Hall, clean-out and organize.
- After a member mentioned the need to clean out Cummins Hall, members volunteered to undertake the project.
- Deer Harbor/Ganges fees.
- There was a discussion on having overnight fees at our Deer Harbor and Ganges Outstations.
- Paying down our bonds.
- It was suggested that we need to pay off out existing bonds.
- It was explained that the bonds were being paid off on a regular basis according to a schedule.
