Logistics problem in the U
Logistics problem in the U
A portion of the bull rail surrounding the U is painted yellow. A sign, posted prominently by the sign-in sheet, notes that the yellow portion of the U is reserved for "loading and unloading", and that moorage in that location is limited to 4 hours.
That's a fairly critical section of the dock. Members need access in order to use the crane or to pump out their holding tanks.
So, how do we solve the problem when a 60 or 65-foot boat side ties in the U and takes up the entire dock, yellow "4 hour loading zone" and all? Many of these larger vessels are tying up for several days, and some for a week or more at a time, preventing all access by any other members to the crane as well as the pump out. It's only realistc to expect that over Opening Day and other special events we are going to have the U so full of boats that nobody can use the crane or the pump out, but should it be a common issue during the rest of the year as well? Do we run some risk of being nailed by the governor's eco-squad if our pump out is frequently inaccessible?
The first thing that comes to mind might be encouraging people to moor at the bottom of the U, rather than along the side.
It would be interesting to see what other sugggestions people might have to resolve this logistics problem in the U.
