Presented by: Sam Landsman
Do you want to experience the beautiful cruising waters further north than the San Juan and Gulf Islands but have some anxiety or fear about the "scary" parts you've heard or read about?
Don't worry, you're not alone.
If you want to "stretch" your cruising comfort zone a bit and want to learn how to safely and comfortably take your boat further north than you have before, this is the Speaker Series session for you!
Sam Landsman will explore the challenges at each of the “gates” of the Inside Passage: the Strait of Georgia, the rapids north of Desolation Sound, Johnstone Strait, Queen Charlotte Sound, and Dixon Entrance. Using beautiful drone video footage, diagrams, pictures, and more, he will walk you through the weather resources, current resources, and show you the safest, most common routes to help you cruise safely and comfortably, whether your destination is the Sunshine Coast, Desolation Sound, the Broughton Archipelago or even all the way up to Alaska.
Sam has extensive cruising experience in these waters. He "cut his teeth" cruising to Alaska and around Vancouver Island in a 22 foot C-Dory, so he's already shown that the size of your boat need not be an obstacle. He's "graduated" to a 37 foot Nordic tug and spends his time aboard cruising and recording his travels for his website www.SlowBoat.com
Sam has led guided flotillas to Alaska for several years, first with the Wagonner organization and now with his own company. Several QCYC members have participated and the feedback was great!
A special area of interest for many boaters is the use of drones to capture video of our travels while underway. Sam has extensive experience with drones and will share tips, tricks, cautions and of course, amazing videos of his journeys north, with an emphasis on lessons learned and how you can benefit from his experience.
Please join us on Wednesday, April 26th at the General Meeting for this Speaker Series event. Dinner is served starting at 6:00pm and the meeting starts at 7:30.
Please sign up on the Events page so we can plan for enough meals and chairs!
