"The light on my dock pedestal is burned out!"
Thanks to Dick Dow, who followed up on a theory and proved it to be correct.
The Docks Committee received a complaint. "The lights on several electrical pedestals on my dock are burned out!"
Or, so it seems until there's a little further investigation.
The light on each dock pedestal is controlled by an electric eye. When it gets dark, the pedestal light is supposed to come on.
HOWEVER
There is also a circuit breaker in each pedestal that controls the pedestal light. If somebody throws off all the circuit breakers before disconnecting a shore power cord (and it's good practice to turn off the electricity before removing the shore power cord), the dock light will be turned off. If the circuit breaker is "off", then the electric eye will not turn on the dock light.
"Can the dock lights be made a little brighter"?
Not easily. At least some of them are LED's, and what you see is what you get. :-)
Thanks to Dick Dow, who reported, "It's amazing how the lights come back on, once the switches are thrown." :-)
