SCHEDULE CHANGE: Eastbound SR 520 closure pushed to Nov. 9-10 weekend
The eastbound SR 520 closure scheduled for this coming weekend has been postponed. Due to weather and other factors, this closure will now take place in mid-November. Here are the details:
- Where: Eastbound SR 520 between Montlake Boulevard in Seattle and 84th Avenue Northeast on the Eastside
- When: Between 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, and 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11
- Why: Crews will shift traffic lanes, pave and restripe this portion of the eastbound roadway. Come Monday morning, Nov. 11, eastbound SR 520 traffic will be reduced to two lanes between Montlake and the floating bridge.
This is how SR 520 will look for three to four years during construction of the Montlake Project.

This traffic shift is necessary to allow crews to remove the existing eastbound lanes and rebuild them to modern seismic standards. The future eastbound bridge will carry traffic on two general-purpose lanes and one transit/HOV lane from Montlake to the floating bridge.
Reminder: We want to hear from you at our Oct. 29 “Rest of the West” open house
Join us on Tuesday, Oct. 29, for an open house on all four SR 520 “Rest of the West” projects in Seattle. Your input provides WSDOT a valuable community perspective as we move forward with design and construction in the corridor.
Open house topics include:
- Refined design concepts for the Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project, including refinements to the bridge design, Roanoke lid, and bicycle/pedestrian connections in the area.
- Montlake Project design progress updates from the Graham team, in collaboration with WSDOT, the Seattle Department of Transportation, and the Seattle Design Commission.
- A public survey on a temporary market or food service in Montlake after the current Montlake Market closes by year’s end.
- A draft Community Construction Management Plan for the SR 520/I-5 Express Lanes Connection Project that outlines how our future contractor will work to minimize construction effects in the community.
- Speak with staff regarding the Montlake Cut Bascule Bridge Project and sign up for future public engagement opportunities.
