Update: Stoney Gate & Valve Replacement Project
The Stoney Gate Valve (SGV) Replacement Project is on schedule and advancing according to plan.
New system component installation is going well and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its contractor IMCO are preparing for operational tests this week, according to Project Manager Peter Gibson.
Experts from the Corps' Inland Navigation Design Center Mandatory Center of Expertise (INDC-MCX), Rock Island, Illinois, will be on hand for this critical test. INDC-MCX provides engineering design, analysis and reviews significant projects, like the SGV, for the Corps across the nation.
Along with the first operational tests of the new valves, Corps operators and maintenance staff are being trained this week on the new system and equipment.
Once the operational test is complete, the contractor and Corps will work to complete construction and preparation needed to refill the chamber and re-open December 3.
