Beat the Bridge

Hello, Neighbor!

Spring is here and it's time for our 41st Annual Beat the Bridge Diabetes run, benefiting JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). This year, the event will be held Sunday, May 21st at 7:45am. Proceeds will fund research aimed at finding a cure for type 1 diabetes. With your cooperation and support, we know we can do it!

The race begins at Husky Stadium and runners head south across the Montlake Bridge. Please check the 8K race route map on the attached letter below. The specific street closures and times are as follows:

  • MONTLAKE BLVD E, SOUTH OF NE PACIFIC ST (7:45-9:00AM)
  • 24TH AVE E, SOUTH OF E ROANOKE ST (NO CLOSURE)
  • BOYER AVE E, EAST OF E LYNN ST (NO CLOSURE)
  • MONTLAKE PLACE, 19TH AVE E AND E LYNN ST, WEST OF 19TH AVE E (8:25-9:40AM)
  • BOYER AVE E / FUHRMAN AVE E, WEST OF E LYNN ST TO EASTLAKE AVE E (8:30-10:15AM)
  • NE PACIFIC ST, FROM BROOKLYN AVE NE TO MONTLAKE BLVD NE (8:15-10:30AM)
  • MONTLAKE BLVD NE, BOTH DIRECTIONS, NORTH OF NE PACIFIC ST (7:30-10:15AM)
  • NE 45TH ST (NO CLOSURE)

Please note, during the race, two-way traffic along NE  Pacific Street will be controlled by Seattle Police, with only one lane available in each direction. Because of the closure on Montlake Boulevard E, south of NE Pacific Street, it will be quite congested in this area, so you should allow plenty of time. On Friday, May 19, you'll find 'No Parking' signs along Boyer Ave E, W Montlake Place and Fuhrman Ave E of street closures. We will have amplified sound starting at 7:30am, lasting until 12:30pm at Husky Stadium.

We anticipate more than 6,000 runners through your neighborhood. To help them do so as quickly as possible, we ask that you park somewhere other than along Boyer Avenue E and Fuhrman Avenue E from 6:30-9:45am on race day. Also, if you have plans to leave your home on the morning of the race, we ask that you consider parking your car off the race route the night before the event. It will be easier to cross the route on foot than by car. In case of emergency, Seattle Police will be patrolling the route and can assist.

We'd love to have you join us as a participant - as a runner, walker, volunteer or spectator! For more info, visit beatthebridge.org or call us at JDRF 206.838.5153 or:
