Vessel Electrical Inspection Registration

It's always a good thing to revisit established processes to bring the newer members onboard. One question that occasionally arises is "How do I register for a Vessel Electrical Inspection?"

The short answer is that it's the same process as registering for a social event. The more detailed version follows,

  • Login to the QCYC website and click on Calendar from the main menu.
  • Select the appropriate month that you’d like your inspection. Find and click on the listed Vessel Electrical Safety Inspection event (usually a Saturday).
  • Review the instructions on the following page.
  • At the bottom of that page, click the Sign Up button.
  • On the Sign Up page, fill in the Boat Name, Owner's Name, QCYC Slip # and any comments (i.e. scheduling issues and if a non-mooring member, will the boat will be at the U, reciprocal dock or work slip). DO NOT use the Comments block to converse with the inspectors. If needed, it is best to contact the event chairperson (inspector) listed on the preceding instructions page.
  • When finished, click Save Registration

You can confirm your registration by again clicking on Calendar and reopening the Vessel Electrical Inspection event that you just posted to. On the right side of that instruction  screen click the View Attendees link. Your name should show along with the list of other registrants.

Electrical Inspections are generally conducted once a month, on a Saturday. There are no regularly scheduled inspections during July and August.

As a reminder,

  • Members with assigned main station moorage are required to undergo electrical inspection every two years. (Club Rule 3.04.03.a and 3.04.04)
    • Outstation winter moorage assignments are exempt from this requirement as that entire location was upgraded to 30milliamp Ground Fault Circuit Breakers. The circuit breaker will deny power If the vessel has an electrical problem, .
  • Non-mooring members are NOT required to undergo an electrical inspection UNTIL they are awarded moorage. Once a member is awarded and accepts main station moorage assignment, the boat must pass electrical inspection BEFORE taking possession of the slip. (Club Rule: 3.04.05.a)
    • NOTE: If you are competitive for moorage assignment, it's wise to complete an electrical inspection before the award. Moorage billing starts the day the Captain accepts the slip and not the day you pass electrical inspection. You could find yourself paying for moorage that you can't occupy until passing inspection.
