Best Way to Tie to Seafair Log Boom?

Any advice for the best way to tie to the log boom and not worry about damaging your swim step?

I've seen the expensive swim step fenders and might go that route, but last time we were on the boom (2016) the log actually kept going under the swim step.  I'm sure some of the veterans in the club have some advice on the best way to tie up!

We'll be taking our 1995 Bayliner 3988 our Fri-Sun.  Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
