Cold weather on the docks, Part II

Bill Brunkhorst wisely pointed out that some members may be unfamiliar with the freeze valve function on our docks.

 

A fitting at the far end of each dock is thermally controlled. When temperatures are below freezing, this fitting opens to permit water to dump into the lake. Water moving through the pipe is less likely to freeze (at least not at temperatures experienced in Seattle), and the cost of the water is miniscule compared to the cost of repairing or replacing the pipe.

 

If, during freezing weather, there is water pouring ot the far end of the docks waterpipes, that's OK,
