Conduct Unbecoming

I am Sharon Stocklin. I have been involved in Queen City Yacht Club for 25 years.  I have participated on numerous Committees, Chaired Club events, been wife of the Chairman of the Board, participated in holiday weekend events at the outstation, participated in summer Club cruises, just to name a few.  I have over the years watched the cooperative and helpful attitude of Club members segue into an attitude of entitlement and "me first".

The most egregious, disgusting example of this attitude occured at the last Club meeting, when a few members whined about how offended they were that some boats which had been moored in inappropriate slips over a period of time had been more appropriately placed, deciding that they knew better than the Club Bylaws the correct definition of "best use of space".  Perhaps they might remember that they are receiving moorage at SIGNIFICANTLY under the going market rate and should be thrilled at that instead of whining about which particular slip they are assigned.  SHAME ON YOU ALL.

I have observed Officers of the Club use their position, which should be to be of service to ALL members, attempt to influence the outcome of a Club election.  SHAME ON YOU.

I have observed Members of the Club slander their fellow Members in an attempt to influence the outcome of a Club election, and exhibit extremely rude and unbecoming behavior toward fellow Members when the objective was not achieved.  SHAME ON YOU.

I have observed Members using cable services at their slips without paying for them.  SHAME ON YOU.

I have observed Members go ballistic when the cost of well drinks at the bar went from $1.50 to $2.00 and threaten to boycott the bar.  Perhaps they would like to go to any of the other Grand 14 yacht clubs and see if they can buy a $2.00 well drink.  SHAME ON YOU.

These are just a few of the examples that come to mind when thinking about the disintigrating attitude of this Club's members.  Let's focus on the myriad benefits and perks we all receive by belonging to Queen City Yacht Club, and realize that the Club is not the personal property of those who complain the most and loudest and feel the most entitled.

Ask not what your Club can do for you; ask what you can do for your Club!!!!!
