Deception Pass

Does anyone have experieince running Deception Pass during non-slack water?  I have never been through Deception Pass and was considering using it for a run back from the San Juans.  I was talking to a fellow boater and he said Deception is safe to run during non-slack water.  I have a full displacement trawler and am considering running the Pass with the incoming tide about 2-3 hours after slack water.  Does anyone have an experiences here?
