February Cruise: Hunters and Tasters
February Cruise: Hunters and Tasters
The "Thank Goodness Prohibition is Over" cruise to Winslow generated six boats and more than 20 QCYCers who hunted and tasted the day away by offering clever responses to scavenger hunt clues and sampling some excellent Washington wines. Attending all or part of the cruise were Wilbours, Goulds, Krows, Dubias, Bensons, and Woods by boat; and Rogers, McGrews, Wilsons, Velateguis, Corffs, and Dale Ward by car.
The scavenger hunt generated tough competition, what with the Team Wood/ Ward/Krow video, the panache of Team McGrew/Wilson, and the most unusual answers provided by Team Wilbour/Velategui, all seeking the favor of judges Larry Dubia and John Alvig. In the end, Team Gould/Benson won the scavenger hunt with their wildly nautical answers to such clues as "It goes around in circles. But is always led. It never complains. It just moves ahead." I was thinking "wheel." Their response: "the earth, which was circumnavigated by Magellin." For the clue "it starts with an e and ends with an e but contains just one letter," the nautical response produced an envelope with a QCYC burgee in the return address.
Each couple brought a bottle of Washington state wine for the wine tasting. It was accompanied by cheeses, salami, crackers, vegies, and "Brazil Bits." (Because your fleet captain participated in the tasting of all 11 bottles of wine, she forgot who won.)
Although many scurried home early Sunday to avoid the bad weather, nine enjoyed breakfast of French toast and bacon on Big Brivet Sunday morning.
The next Fleet Captain's cruise is March 19-20 to the Outstation. This time, cruisers will be guessing "who dunnit" as part of a murder mystery game cooked up by Chuck Gould.
Happy cruising,
Fleet Captain Dorothy Dubia
