It might be useful for there to be a master calendar

Barry and Colleen Rutten are working their butts off to promote their Ice Breaker Cruise to Poulsbo, January 11-13. Hats off to them, I have to admire Fleet Captains who have some old -fahsioned idea that more yacht club "cruises" should actually involve going somewhere by boat.

So, will Jan and I be going? Nope. The Icebreaker Cruise is the same weekend as the monthly Docks work party. Helping maintain our multi-million dollar marina has to be a high priority, especially since there tasks that can't be done under the docks once the lake begins rising in earnest. Darn.

It seems like a lot of stuff at QCYC gets scheduled in a vaccuum. Here's an example. Virtually every spring, we have somebody promoting a cruise down to Tacoma Yacht Club for the Daffodil Regatta; but our annual Outstation Work Party always seems to fall on the same weekend. We often get people standing up at general meetings to pitch competing club events with simultaneous scheduling.

Maybe if there was a master calendar for the club, with all events listed as far in advance as possible, fewer committees would be picking the same dates for competing activities. Perhaps the Commodore, as executive officer of the club and the final authority on all social matters, could keep an eye on the master calendar and suggest that people try to avoid scheduling too many different events on the same day.
