By-Laws Vote (May 27th)

QCYC membership,

On Wednesday, May 27 the QCYC membership we will be voting on several By-laws amendments. The one receiving the most attention and discussion as it should is related to a dues increase. The Planning and Finance Committee, Bridge and Board of Trustees have spent countless hours discussing this dues increase, researching future costs and seeking input from members prior to recommending it to the membership.

The cost of living and expenses have been on the increase since the last dues increase, from the year 2000 to 2008 the Consumer Price Index has increased a combined 25%. A subset of 5 expenses (such as insurance, taxes, utilities) for the club from 2002 to 2008 have increase 40% which is equivalent to $59k, additionally this is forecasted to increase to a value in excess of $71k for the period from 2002 to 2009.

The $200 dues increase will go a long way in addressing the increased expenses and other needs of the club such as the implementation of the City of Seattle mandated Fire Code Compliance project and the future replacement of docks at our Winslow outstation.

The $200 annual increase in dues represents about $16 per month additional and less than $4 per week.

The Planning and Finance Committee, Bridge and Board of Trustees unanimously endorse these amendments and need your support in voting yes for these amendments!
