In Memoriam - Al Jones

Al Jones

I am very saddened to report that our long-time member and hero, Al Jones, passed away Wednesday Jan 6th at 101 years old. Al was club number 007 when he crossed the bar on his last voyage.

Al enlisted in the RCAF at the beginning of WWII and went on to fly bombers and fighters for the RAF and USAF in Europe – a total of 88 combat missions! He then, in Al’s words, “entered the wild and wonderful non-schedule airline business” flying all over the world for 10 years.

Al then accepted an offer from Boeing Flight Test, test flying the B-47 and B-52 bombers out of Wichita. After transferring to the Commercial Division, Al flew flight test assignments on the 707 through the 747 airplanes and became Chief Pilot - Flight Crew Training.

Al and wife Naides produced two Children, Leslie and Kevin (QCYC member) and six grandchildren (including Austin, also a QCYC member), all of whom adored Al.

A memorial service will be held at our club when the Covid-19 restrictions are relaxed.
