New Table Saw

Many years of service took a toll on a table saw loaned to QCYC by the Brothers Grimm. Recent evaluation revealed that the blade guard (!) was missing, and the casting with which to attach another had cracked. The fence no longer locked positively into place.

There's a new saw on order. It's built by the Sawstop company. It incorporates some impressive safety features.

There's a small electrical charge introduced to the blade. If that electrical charge is interrupted by contact with something more conductive than wood, (human fingers, for example), a mechanical brake stops the blade in a matter of milliseconds. This saw is currently the popular choice for schools, public woodoworking shops, and even professional cabinet shops desiring to do as much as possible to prevent amputation by table saw.

The saw should be in place in early May. Please don't remove blade guards and other safety systems from the saw. That should go without saying, but sadly that isn't the case.

Safety has to be the clubs' #1 priority, and even if *you* are willing to run the additional risk of using a saw with safety features removed or defeated, does any individual member really have the right to make that decision for the next user?

We will make the instruction manual avaialable for any member to read.

There may be an issue trying to cut "wet" (as in soaking wet) wood on the new saw.
