Like many members, I'm so very proud and pleased that spouses are now equal members. It's been very gratifying to personally witness several "swearing in" ceremonies, not the least of which was the ceremony at the Winslow spring clean up where my wife Colleen took part in the ceremony. I've seen other ceremonies at the outstation (Memorial Day & July 4th) and at the main station. What a great thing we've done for the club, for both current and future members.
While doing a little web surfing to see what other yacht clubs are doing this summer, I came across this little tidbit from the Rainer Yacht Club:
*Have women as equal members with full voting privileges
*Have a woman commodore
*Have an African-American commodore
AND....We are now the first club in the Grand14 to use SKYPE to induct members.
We are making great progress but have some room to go. Perhaps one of our female captains should be considered for the Rear Commodore position next go around, working her way through the chairs.
And using Skype to conduct an induction to the club.....very cutting edge.
Just some thoughts.....
