PNW Yacht Clubs during COVID-19

Great information on the status of PNW Yacht Clubs and their availability disposition relating to COVID-19.

Anacortes YC
The clubhouse is currently not open to members or guests. The club is following guidance from the
Skagit County Health Department. All clubhouse activities and sponsored events – including cruises
and racing – have been cancelled. Reciprocal moorage with access to power and water provided by
Cap Sante Marina is available on a first-come basis. Other shoreside amenities (washrooms, laundry.
Etc. ) provided by the marina are available. At this time, the club does not anticipate any long-term
effects on visiting boaters due to the current pandemic.

Burrard YC (pending)

Capital City YC
The clubhouse is open to the membership but not to visitors until further notice. The reciprocal dock
and access to washrooms, shower and laundry are all closed until further notice. Scheduled meetings,
events and activities have been cancelled through the end of June. An updated assessment will be made
subsequently and plans adjusted accordingly. Government regulations and advisories have an important
influence in what the club will do going forward and in particular members will be guided by border
crossing restrictions. The club’s website and yachtdestinations.com will announce changes to the
current restrictions.

Deep Bay YC
Deep Bay YC is easing restrictions: The clubhouse will be open to members and guests May 15th. It
will be fully open to all by the end of June. Events or activities that were missed in the months of
April/May will move forward in the New Year. General meetings/ dinners will commence in
September. The club encourages boaters to travel to destinations (marine parks) with others to raft.
There will be no Rendezvous this year unfortunately. Again please reach out to other boaters to plan
trips, so the club can keep the numbers low and still practice distancing. The reciprocal dock is now
open. The washrooms on the gov't side currently remain closed. An updated calendar will be provided
shortly on our website.

Deep Cove YC
The common areas of Deep Cove’s clubhouse are open to members, except the bar. The bar closure is
initially up to April 30, however the club expects to extend this closure based on the current health
authority recommendations. The club has cancelled or postponed all club activities, including: Annual
Sail Past, Safety Weekend, racing, and all social events. Executive and committee meetings continue
but on-line. The clubhouse has been closed to new reservations for rental. All current rentals of greater
than 50 people have been cancelled. The club is honoring current reservations for rentals with less than
50 people, but reportedly so far these rentals have been cancelling prior to their event. All reciprocal
privileges have been suspended indefinitely. There is not a time line to resume. The docks and
outstations continue to be open to members provided that social distancing is practiced. At this time it
is hard to estimate any permanent or season-long impacts of the COVID-19. The club hopes to start
returning to normal operations by or before the end of the summer, depending on recommendations of
the health authorities.

Deer Harbor YC*
Due to the current COVID-19 situation, and in accordance with the San Juan County Local Health
Officer Order 2020-1 as well as the Governor's Proclamations 20-25 and 20-25.1, Deer Harbor Marina
will not be accepting any reservations for transient moorage scheduled for the months of April and
May. Deer Harbor YC’s reciprocal moorage is within the Deer Harbor Marina.

Des Moines YC*
Des Moines YC reports their reciprocal dock is closed until further notice. South Sound and Marine
Swap Meet have been cancelled due to state restrictions on gatherings.

False Creek YC
False Creek YC reports their clubhouse is on lockdown. Everything has been cancelled or postponed to
the end of May. All club events, sailpasts, etc are cancelled until further notice. The club is accepting
visitors, but slips are limited and visitors are required to call the dockmaster in advance. The restaurant
and lounge are closed. Guests are required to follow the social distancing protocol. Restrooms, showers
& laundry are open. The club expects to have everything back up and running when the ban is off.

Flounder Bay YC*
Due to COVID 19, all reciprocal moorage availability is currently closed.

Fox Island YC
The Fox Island YC clubhouse and its facilities are currently closed to members. The grounds, dock, and
members launch ramp remain open. As of now all meetings and current actives have been canceled,
and cancellations are being revisited on a monthly basis. Reciprocal moorage space is still open, but as
stated, no facilities are available. Longer-term impacts of the current emergency are being reevaluated
on a monthly basis.

Gig Harbor YC*
The Gig Harbor YC Board has cancelled Club events through the end of April. Future scheduled events
requiring advance preparation, such as the April 24thMembership Drive BBQ, the May 16th
Commodore’s Ball and the May 30thYard Sale, have been postponed; the club is looking at new future
dates. The club will not hold organized cruise gatherings until such time as its deemed safe and
permissible.

Maple Bay YC
Maple Bay’s clubhouse is closed to everyone until such time as the Provincial Health Minister lifts the
current isolation ban. All club activities in April and May have been cancelled. Upcoming events past
that point will be considered based on government directives. Regularly scheduled movie nights
(Wednesdays) and dinners (Fridays) are cancelled until further notice. The reciprocal dock is closed to
members as well as visitors. There are no exceptions. The club hopes to be able to open up their
facilities for both members and reciprocal visitors as soon as the COVID-related restrictions are lifted.
At that time, they anticipate resuming “business as usual” for the remainder of the 2020 boating season.

Nanaimo YC
All activities have been cancelled or postponed until the end of July at the earliest. That may be pushed
back depending on the COVID-19 situation nearer the time. The reciprocal dock is closed until the
end of September at the earliest. The Basil Hobbs Memorial Snake Island Nanaimo (SIN) Regatta has
been cancelled. Next year’s dates are Friday to Sunday, July 2, 3 and 4, 2021.

Navy YC Everett
Navy YC Everett does not have a clubhouse, but meetings and cruises have been cancelled. The club’s
reciprocal moorage space is at Everett Marina. Right now the marina says they aren’t accepting any
guest boats, and their office isn’t open to visitors. Reportedly, however, if a boat moors in a visitor slip
in the12th St. basin (the spaces used for recips) and calls the office, they will let them stay as a
reciprocal! The club is not anticipating any season-long impacts on visiting boaters. Nearby restaurants
are closed except for take-out. Harbor Marine located on port property is open for business.

Oak Harbor YC*
Due to COVID-19 (Coronoavirus) the OHYC will be closed effective immediately. The OHYC expects
closure will be through the start of May.

Olympia YC
Consistent with State and Federal regulations, the clubhouse is closed. Club activities have been
cancelled through the end of May, at which time a determination will be made whether further closures
will be necessary. The club has closed the reciprocal dock to visitor moorage until further notice.
Groups of 10 or more persons are prohibited on the docks. While the club hopes to be up and running
in June, that will be contingent on government regs regarding large group gatherings. The club also
reports Olympia is pretty much shut down with little to do and so asks visiting boaters to remain on
their boats and remember to maintain social distancing.

Orcas Island YC*
In an enhanced effort to support our community's public health prevention of the spread of coronavirus
here on Orcas Island, the Orcas Island Yacht Club docks and grounds are currently CLOSED to visitors
and members.

Port Ludlow YC*
The Wreck Room, the club’s primary activity area, is closed until further notice. The club’s reciprocal
moorage is at the Port Ludlow Marina. The marina office is currently closed. The restroom and shower
facilities are closed to outside guests. The marina asks that visitors minimize their time off their vessel
but welcomes use of the trail system for hikes, keeping in mind the 6 feet social distancing guideline.
The marina office is limiting occupancy of the marina store to two people at one time. A simple knock
on the front door between the hours of 10 am – 3 pm, Monday – Saturday, will bring someone to assist.
The hotel, restaurant and golf course are currently closed.

Port Townsend YC
Port Townsend YC is guiding its activities and use of facilities on the Governor’s COVID-19 directive
which is in effect until May 5. If there are any extensions of that directive, the club will comply. As a
result, the club is not open to gatherings by any members (or visitors). All scheduled PTYC member
meetings, events, and cruises are cancelled through the end of May. The PTYC Board is meeting
regularly via video conference and will be reassessing how to proceed after May, in accordance with
Center for Disease Control, Jefferson County Health Department and Governor Inslee's
recommendations. The Port of Port Townsend is not accepting any recreational transient moorage
patrons, so no PTYC reciprocal moorage will be allowed until after the Governor’s May 5th date. It is
too early to assess any potential changes that would affect visitors in the boating season ahead.

Puget Sound YC
The Puget Sound YC’s clubhouse has been disinfected and is currently locked down. Members are
asked not to enter. Visitors and guests are not permitted. All April meetings are being conducted
virtually for members only. All socials and cruises have been cancelled through the WA state "Stay at
Home" order with a tentative end date of May 4th. The club will evaluate May events after that time.
Reciprocal moorage, laundry, ice, and showers are closed to visitors. Visitors and guests are not
permitted on the PSYC dock. The club will re-evaluate these restrictions after May 4th. Beyong these
restrictions, no long-term impacts are anticipated at this time.

Quartermaster YC
The club’s island location as a small community with limited medical response/facilities has led the
Quartermaster YC Board to exercise an abundance of caution in managing the pandemic risk for all.
The clubhouse has not been officially closed, but events are not being conducted there. Quartermaster
has cancelled their Opening Day event on May 9 and will likely have to cancel the July 4 picnic. The
Board is conducting meetings by teleconference. The reciprocal moorage is closed at least through May
4, complying with State directives and will remain so until a change order is received from the State.
The club is prepared for that closure being extended another month beyond May 4. The pump-out
remains open as an essential service.

Queen City YC
Queen City’s clubhouse is currently open for the use of restrooms, showers & laundry only. They
strictly do not want members occupying the common spaces. NO visitors allowed unless they are a
guest of a member using the approved facilities. All April activities to which visitors are invited have
been canceled. There are two social-distancing appropriate events at the end of April, but they are not
open to visitors. All meals have been canceled. Reciprocal moorage is suspended until further notice.
No visitors are allowed at the reciprocal dock. The club hopes to open reciprocity again before summer
begins, but has no set date. No other season-long impacts on visitors to the club are anticipated.

Roche Harbor YC
Roche Harbor YC does not have a clubhouse but provides reciprocal moorage at the Port of Bremerton
Marina in Bremerton. That reciprocal moorage is closed during the current emergency. The club also
reports that all cruises are cancelled through the end of May. They hope to get back to normal
operations soon.

Royal City YC
The club does not have a clubhouse, but conducts meetings at a local golf club. Those meetings are
cancelled until the pandemic is over. All events for April and May have been canceled. Reciprocal
moorage and amenities have been closed until the pandemic is over. Royal City doesn’t anticipate any
long-term impacts from the current situation on visiting boaters, since their Fraser River South Arm
location doesn’t attract many visitors.

Royal Victoria YC*
RVYC will continue to accept Canadian reciprocal members in the marina, but reminds these visitors
the Clubhouse is now closed. All Opening Day activities have been cancelled.

Seattle Yacht Club*
Effective March 16, 2020, Seattle Yacht Club in accordance with the club’s COVID-19 protocol will
not be accepting reciprocal guests until further notice. This information will be updated as soon as this
restriction is lifted. All Opening Day activities have been cancelled for 2020.

Semiahmoo YC*
Semiahmoo Marina is closed to all transient and Semiahmoo YC reciprocal moorage at this time. The
fuel dock remains open.

Shelter Bay YC
The clubhouse at Shelter Bay YC is closed to members and visitors. All events at have been cancelled
until July 1. The club’s board will decide if further cancellations are necessary when they meet in June.
Reciprocal moorage and amenities are closed but will be reviewed by the board in June. While the
board monitors and follows Washington State guidelines and discusses such at monthly teleconference
meetings, the outlook is currently too unpredictable to offer any long-term guidance to visiting boaters.

Shelton YC
The Shelton Yacht Club canceled all club events until further notice. The club owns the Oakland Bay
Marina. They estimate they may have the only club-owned marina they know of that is open to
members and non members alike. Their guest dock remains open to both reciprocal clubs and to paying
guests during the pandemic. There are no bathroom facilities open, but there is a pump out on the guest
dock. The marina office is staffed but is closed to public entry to protect their employee.

Sidney North Saanich YC
The clubhouse is closed and all scheduled events cancelled through the end of April. The reciprocal
moorage and washrooms remain open, but no other amenities. Access to the gate and washrooms is
available at the kiosk on the recip dock. The Executive committee of the club meets every two weeks
by teleconference to discuss the need for further changes, but they do not anticipate any season-long
changes that will affect visiting boaters. The Spring session of the junior sailing program (operating off
the same dock as reciprocal moorage) was cancelled, but they plan to resume when things get back up
and running – hopefully the end of May.

Tacoma YC
The Tacoma YC clubhouse is closed at this time to all members and visitors until further notice. The
basement restrooms and showers are accessible to members only. All April and May activities and in
person meetings have been canceled. All meetings are being conducted virtually until further notice.
Reciprocal moorage is suspended until further notice. No visitors are allowed at the reciprocal dock.
The club hopes to open it again before summer begins, but s no set date.

Totem YC
Access to the clubhouse is limited to key people. Otherwise the club is not open to the general
membership except for meetings and sponsored events. (See below) Rental of the clubhouse is
considered on a case-by-case basis. Potential renters may access the building with the rental manager.
Parking at the club for nearby events (e.g., Taste of Tacoma) is still available. The clubhouse is not
located near the reciprocal moorage on Thea Foss Waterway, so the only anticipated visitor attendance
would be for general membership meetings. All club meetings have been cancelled or changed to
virtual meetings until at least the first of May. Club work activities have been postponed until at least
the first of May except for individuals or very small groups. The club’s reciprocal moorage and
amenities are located at Foss Harbor Marina which is currently operational.
http://www.fossharbormarina.com/ While the club’s leadership will continue to monitor and adjust to
changes in the COVID-19 situation, they do not anticipate season-long impacts on the membership or
visitors.

Tyee YC
Tyee YC reports that their clubhouse is currently not open to members or visitors. When that changes is
to be determined. Meetings, events or activities to which visitors might be invited have been cancelled.
The club’s reciprocal moorage and amenities are closed, and there is no access to these facilities. When
these circumstances as well as other impacts on visitors to the club will change is to be determined.

*******We have tried to include every yacht club in WA and BC in this survey. For some clubs, we could not
establish a workable email address. In those cases, if the club had notifications posted on their website
that were responsive to the survey, we transferred as much detail as was applicable to this summary. Those
inputs are identified with an asterisk by the club’s name.
