Pride of Queen City - Saturday April 25th
Dear Members,
It’s time to spruce up for spring and get our clubhouse and grounds ship shape for Opening Day of Boating Season at the annual Pride of Queen City event, coming up very fast on Saturday, April 25th, from 9am until we’re done ! For our many new members, this is one of the best events to meet lots of your fellow club members, as we usually have a huge turnout of helpers. As many people will tell you, volunteering is at the heart of our club philosophy and it’s one of the best ways to meet new friends and feel that sense of belonging to the club. The more volunteers we we have, the faster the work will get finished!
We really need “all hands on deck” to assist with the many, many projects and tasks that have been organized by my very able team of lieutenants. We’ve already cleaned all of the concrete around the parking lot and docks during PressureWashaPalooza last Sunday.
Here are the broad categories of tasks where we need you to step up and volunteer. You’ll have a great time and enjoy re-connecting with old friends and making new friends as you work side by side to make our club shine for the numerous guests who will be aboard during Opening Day week, and of course so the club looks great for all of us to enjoy all summer!
Grounds – Team Lead is MaryLouise Alving – This is for all of you who love plants and flowers and gardening. Get outside and get your thumbs green!
House – Team Lead is Jim Damery – If you’d prefer to work inside, Jim’s list of tasks covers all skill levels and interests. Get one done; he’ll have another for you!
Docks – Team Lead is Ron Stevenson – If the glamour of working down on the docks is more your speed, Ron has enough tasks to keep many people busy. Just ask!
Galley – We will have lots of hardworking and hungry boaters to feed. We really need some help in the galley to prepare and serve lunch and to prepare and serve dinner and to clean up after each meal. Please let me know in advance (best) or at the event that you can help out in the galley. You will meet everyone in attendance and be thanked profusely by me and every boater with a full belly.
If you’re planning on helping out with Grounds, you might want to bring your favorite gardening/planting tools as there are a limited amount of club tools available.
Please note: We have new carpet installed in the clubhouse, on the main stairs and on the second and third decks. Please do everything possible to prevent mud and dirt from being tracked into the club. Bring a pair of “inside” shoes if possible, especially if you’ll be doing any outside work on the grounds or docks. We don’t want to track in a bunch of yuck onto our beautiful new carpet!
It would ease my mind if you posted a reply right now and just said “I’m in!” or “We’ll be there!” so we can get a head count for food purchasing and galley help. If you would like to also indicate your preferred area of work, please mention Grounds, House, Docks and/or Galley. You’re not locked in, it just helps with planning. You can also e-mail barryrutten@comcast.net
Thank you and see you on Saturday April 25th!
