Small Locks Closure

The small lock at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard will close to all marine traffic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., February 7, 8 and 9 for underwater inspections in preparation for March’s small lock annual maintenance.

The large lock will still be available for vessels, however, 50-foot lines are needed when locking through using this chamber. Mariners may experience delays, depending on passage demand. Although not anticipated, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials may need to close the large lock intermittently during the dives.

The small lock is scheduled to close for annual maintenance March 5-16.

Questions may be directed to Lockmasters Larry Meyer or Vickie Shepard, at 206-789-2622 ext. 230, or Public Affairs Officer Bill Dowell, at 206-764-3464.
