QCYC Speaker Series is pleased to announce a presentation Caribbean Hurricane Relief by Sailboat on April 25th at the General Meeting by club member Erik Long, who participated in a humanitarian mission to provide hurricane relief to the people of the Caribbean, devastated by a series of two storms, Hurricanes Maria and Irma, that hit Puerto Rico and the surrounding islands in 2017.
Departing from Newport, Rhode Island and traveling aboard the 62 foot, 66 ton sailing vessel ENZO, Erik (who holds a USCG six-pack license) and his fellow crew members traveled 1600 nautical miles to bring much needed supplies, including water purification kits based on Home Depot buckets (wait until you see how many they crammed in!) to people throughout the Caribbean islands.
Erik took lots of incredible pictures of the journey, the damage and the voyage itself. He'll show us what the news media did not and give you a true sense of the scale of the damage through pictures and stories.
As always, please register your planned attendance on the Events page for bar, dinner and seating planning.
We look forward to having you join us for a very unique and special presentation.
