Very disappointed in the number of thoughtless members....
Parking is ridiculous.
Part of that is due to the fact that we have added a lot of new members (Yay! That's good!)
The rest of it is due to the fact that on Friday afternoon, July 31, roughly 1/5 of the cars in the parking lot did *not* have a QCYC parking permit.
Why not? Every member gets a parking permit. However, if one family brings two or more cars to the marina, or if a member goes out cruising for a week and tells his non-member guests to go ahead and park on the lot because "it's no big deal, they never enforce parking", we wind up with the situation we now have...additional cars per membership and non-member cars taking up space on the lot. None of the additional cars per membership, or non-member cars will have a permit- of course.
The frustrating thing is that the bridge refuses to enforce the parking regulations. The usual excuse is, "We don't want to irritate or inconvenience any of our members by towing away any cars not in compliance with the parking rules." Really? Well how about the inconvenience and irritation of the other members who circle the lot two or three times, then finally give up and go park somewhere in the neighborhood? Isn't their inconvenience and irritation as important as that of members who flip the seabird at the parking rules?
We can do better.
First off, the members who are parking non-permit vehicles, or allowing their guests to do so, can do better by thinking of other members as well as their own personal convenience. In an ideal world, that's what would happen. Last I looked, we don't live in an ideal world.
And then, the individuals in authority need to accept the less pleasant aspect of management and stop being afraid to enforce the rules.
If we don't want to have parking rules, then drop them or change them. With no parking rules, we will have just what we have now, only worse.
If we are going to have parking rules, enforce them.
