When Hiring Bands, a Couple to Consider...

Commiittee chairs with the budget to hire live music for events might want to consider contacting QCYC members Alan Rogstad  and/or Blake Rafferty about dates on next year's calendar. Both are extremely talented guitarists, and play in different commercial bands. They can be found gigging at local bars, casinos, and festivals. Both are also members of the QCYC Music Committee.  When there's a member available to provide a service at a competitive price, and no compromise in quality, there might be some merit to steering business to our own members.

Alan's band is more "classic rock". Blake's band is more "country rock", and sometimes just flat out "country". :-)

Of course, for events without the budget room to bring in a paid band, Desolation Sounds is evolving into a really decent alternative. When we next play for a QCYC event (May 1), the fruit or our continuous rehearsal should be evident. Keep DS in mind for any event where having music and dancing would be fun, but there's no room in the budget for a commercial band.
